We carried out the complex removal and relocation of 7 classrooms from Campbells Bay School as part of the MOE Transportable Programme. This initiative sees the refurbishment and re-utilisation of existing classrooms rooms from schools that no longer have requirement that other schools with increased role growth.
With meticulous planning and preparation, we lead this project on site with the support and assistance of Universal Cranes. The logistic complexity of four classrooms being at the back of the school site with limited access saw the need for four cranes including one of the largest mobile cranes in NZ. This allowed us to lift the classrooms out safely, keeping the swing zone tight over isolated areas, with mid-air transfer from one crane to another, landing them at the front of the site on temporary props and directly on to the transport truck bed.
The lifting of 4 classrooms took place over one day, and went without any incidents, and the transport of all 7 classrooms was completed over the course of the April School holidays with the assistance of Jazz Home Haulage.
The project received excellent feedback from the MOE:
“Livingstone and Savills have delivered an exceptional outcome, with site remediation completed to a standard well beyond our usual scope – an approach that was clearly necessary in this instance. The professionalism and support from the Livingstone team made a significant difference. What could have been a challenging situation resulted in a very happy donor school, thanks to your efforts.
The final result for the relocatables is outstanding: five assets that look brand new and are expected to have at least another 25 years of life. All in all, a great success, and the cost has absolutely been worth it.”
