The role
We are looking for a Leading Hand/ Carpenter with experience in commercial/residential construction and team leadership to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to our high standards.
As a Leading Hand, you will uphold Livingstone values and purpose on site. You will oversee all daily activities on site, prioritise safety and meet deadlines without compromising on quality and excellence. The ideal candidate will thrive on job variety, excel in leadership, can mentor apprentices, and possess strong commercial building experience.
The role will involve:
- Support the site manager/foreman with setting daily expectations and monitoring progress of Livingstone/subcontractor carpentry teams
- Ensuring tasks are completed to the highest standard and in a timely manner
- Provide guidance and mentorship to other team members, help them to develop their skills and expertise
- Collaborating with Site Managers, Site Foreman and subcontractors to interpret plans, specifications, and project requirements
- Troubleshooting and resolving any on-site issues or challenges that arise
- Work alongside site carpentry staff while driving quality and output.
- Ensuring strict adherence to all health and safety protocols and regulations
- Fostering a positive and productive work environment for the construction team
- Trade Qualified Carpenter with a minimum of 5 years of experience in the NZ construction industry
- Proven track record of leading and managing construction crews, with excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Strong technical knowledge and understanding of construction methods, materials and building codes
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively liaise with Livingstone management, site staff and subcontractors
- Commitment to maintaining a safe and productive work environment
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment and mentor apprentices
- Proficient in reading and interpreting construction plans and specifications
