The Maryann Rest Home and Hospital operates in Stratford, providing rest home, geriatric, medical and dementia care services to the community. This project was to add a new hospital wing and demenita care unit to the existing facility. The hospital wing consisted of 24 rooms and the dementia care unit 16, with both ensuite and non ensuite rooms. The areas each have a separate dining room and communal lounge spaces.

The staged construction programme comprised of:

  • the demolition of the centre section of the rest home in preparation for the construction of the new hospital.
  • the new hospital wing constructed with a mixture of concrete and wooden floors on driven piles with timber frames and trusses and brick and palaside cladding.
  • the demolition of the east wing to create the new dementia unit. This was done by hand to enable most of the framing and trusses to be kept. Landscaping and gardens with paths
  • a 2m high block boundary fence to provide the required security, competed this stage
  • the west wing was modified to create a new administration area.
